Bald Eagle Vs. Seagull

I found this Seagull chasing after an American Bald Eagle yesterday in West Michigan. Perhaps the Eagle had something it wanted, but I doubt that it would be successful in taking it from the more powerful bird.

Gulls can be bold but after an eagle? Perhaps he hopes the eagle will drop his prize.
In my backyard I witnessed 2 crows harrassing a cooper’s hawk. I guess they didn’t want him in their territory. I didn’t expect them to be after a raptor.
That’s awesome!! It looks like the seagull is hoping to catch a ride.
Just way too funny ! Is that nesting material I see in the Bald Eagle’s talons in the first pic? Sure is tough to get housing material!
Yeah, my money is on the eagle. Great capture!
I can guess who won THAT one
Awesome shots. I think the gull was just making trouble as seagulls love to do.
I’m wondering if the eagle realizes the gull is about to use his back as a landing strip.
OMG! That’s hillarious! Thanks for being in the right place at the right time with your camera.
Awesome photos (and I don’t use the word very much).
For the record, just because I’m a pedantic bastard, there are Herring Gulls, Ring-billed Gulls, Greater Black-backed gulls, and a variety of others, but there is no bird that is correctly referred to as a “seagull,” regardless of what Richard Bach had to say. (I told Richard that, too.)
Bill, you’re absolutely right. They spend at least as much time on land as they do at sea.
Seagull is taking a chance there!
Wow, what a shot, that seagull has some pluck.
Fine capture. That gull looks unhappy about something.
It’s quite common to see smaller birds harrassing much bigger birds of prey in the air. They’re pretty safe whilst they’re airborne as the smaller guys are generally alot faster and more manouverable, and the gull may well be big enough to make the eagle drop its cargo.
I live in the PNW and you see the bald eagles being chased by all sorts of birds.
Mother nature is awesome! Great capture and the right time.
Okay, this really struck me as funny!
Great photo, I once watched an osprey chase after an eagle after it stole the fish the osprey had caught. I’m not as good a photographer as you are so the image is only a memory. Thanks for sharing your photos.
Great shot!
I saw something similar last weekend in a local park. There were about 30 seals sunny themselves on a rock when an eagle flew over and the seals all scattered. A few minutes later the eagle was a chased by a flock of gulls. So much for size matters…. Nature is funny.
now that is bold! great shot.
