I found this fungi growth on the top of a log in Southwest Michigan. I’m not an expert on fungi, but found this to be an interesting subject to photograph. You can click on the image to see a more detailed view.

I found this fungi growing while I went for a walk last Sunday. It had emerged from a tree that had fallen long ago in a local West Michigan forest.

Post 400! Elk Crossing

For my 400th post I present this photo which I took today at the Outdoor Discovery Center Macatawa Greenway in Holland, Michigan. I found the Elk crossing a stream while displaying its impressive rack.

Newly Emerged

I photographed this newly emerged butterfly as it had broken out of its chrysalis and began to dry its wings. I used a Canon 50 mm F-2.5 Macro lens.

Preening Display

I was happy to find this Great Blue Heron preening its feathers in a nearby West Michigan wetland area. This type of bird is one of my favorites to photograph.
