I found this muskrat today on the frozen edge of a stream in Ottawa County, Michigan. It appeared to be nibbling on something just before diving into the freezing water for a swim.

I am always amazed at their feet. Interesting creature
so many cool things in michigan. clearly the best state in the union.

contrary to lack-of-duck-variety, we DO have a few different water mammals — i saw an otter frolicing/rolling on the ice of the Colorawdough River recently, and look on with interest at how the muskrats do whatever it is they do underneath the ice of our pond
