) I guess I’m still in my photo-journalistic mode and feel a need to comment. But you have a great point. I’ve always felt that photos can stand on their own leaving people to their own interpretations. On the other hand, I know some would like details as well. I try to give just a little of my thought process with the photos at times, along with where I took the photo in case people have an interest. Hope you’ll be back, I’ll check out your blog again as well. Thanks!

Thank you! Well, I think there have been more opportunities for nice light outside recently with our mild winter so far. It sure motivates me when I see the sun shining in January! Here is Michigan, normally it would be cloudy and snowing. Anyway, thanks again and I’ll watch your blog as well.

Thank you! I think the best advice I could give is to get out and shoot often. Also keep looking at other people’s work/blogs for inspiration. It really motivates me to get out and also generates ideas, or variations of ideas that other people have tried. I’m always surprised by what I find when I just go out and look for something. You have recently followed my PhotoBlog ~ Land-sea-sky iMAGEbANK . I have just had a look around your blog and thoroughly enjoyed the trip. In fact I think often we look at things in the same way I am sure I will learn from some of your compositions. May I make you aware of a couple of things I found while moving around the blog. I couldnt find the Tweet button/facebook/comments page easily due to the fact that as a WordPress user the additional info band at the top of my page blocked me being able to see the links at the top of the page, (something non WordPress followers wouldn’t have an issue with) and secondly I would have loved the ability to comment on individual images. Please accept these views as constructive and keep showing us such great imagery.
I intend to start a Blogrol for those I follow and would seek you permission to included on that. (may attract some more traffic your way

The photo of the red berries is wondrous. I remember those from when I was a kid. If I remember correctly, they are poisonous. They get left alone by animals..

I have looked at all of your photos. There are some amazing shots.
I grew up in Detroit for a few years and we used to go to Holland, Michigan (I think more than once, but I can’t remember) to the tulip festival. Also used to travel across to Chicago, stopping in Battle Creek ALWAYS, along the way.
I also used to go to summer camp in Charlevoix. It’s great to see beautiful photos of the state of my birth. Makes me what to come back and see. But I didn’t live near the lake.

A Canon EOS Rebel T3 is what I want to start with…thoughts? In my former job I was the photog (unofficially since i ALWAYS had the camera) and taking pics is just a treat. Means a lot to that you like my flowers! Thanks!
Thanks! I’m using a Rebel T3i and really like it. It’s has an 18 meg file size and an aps sensor (not full frame) but still has nice sharp images. It’s also has HD video. Thanks again and have fun!

Hi! Thanks so much for your kind comments. I use Canon Lenses. My favorite telephoto is a 200mm F2.8 L lens. If I need to get in closer to a subject like a bird, I’ll use a 2x convertor to make it the equivalent of a 400mm F-5.6. Some day I hope to get a longer L lens, like a 300 F-2.8 or a 400. I also like Canon’s wide angle L lens. Thanks for your thoughts and question

Thanks for liking my “dwarf pomegranate” photo and for following my blog. Your photos are amazing, I feel like I am actually there looking through the lens and seeing those stunning pictures. In Australia it is summer and in the southern areas, most landscape photos and brown rather than green and definately no snow!! I enjoy taking nature and landscape photos rather than people photos and I especially enjoy taking close-up shots. I have recently got my first digital SLR camera as well as a macro lens, I can see many hours disappearing in my pursuit of getting insects on flower photos. I look forward to continuing to check out your blog and drawing inspiration from your photos…

Ther are a number of great photo opportunities in Hofma park, located east of 31 on ferris street. I used to wander through there when I was a kid. Now it actually connects to another park by a floating bridge across the marsh on the backside of Pottowattami bayou. The other park can be accessed from beach tree blvd but I do not know which road off Beech Tree.

Being curious, I clicked back to view your photo blog. Wow, we like the same sort of things! I love and envy your snowy owl shots! I saw an owl fly off Saturday when I was trekking back from our pond and wished I had been quieter and more obseervant (and had a longer lens) so I could maybe have gotten a shot of it. I hear the owls frequently at night – we seem to have many screech owls in the area – but I have rarely spotted them.
I am now following your blog, too, and looking forward to enjoying more outdoor shots of Michigan.

Hi! I try to watch for other blogs to gain inspiration and for the enjoyment of seeing other people’s work. It’s really motivated me to go out and look for some nice photo opportunities. Don’t give up on finding an owl to photograph. I must have went out at least 10 times for that purpose before I got a nice shot of the snowy owl. If you know the general area they are in, just keep trying. I heard of an area nearby that people have seen long-eared owls, but my first search didn’t turn up any. I’ll keep trying though. Anyway, thanks again for visiting and have fun. I’ll keep an eye on your blog too

Your photograph of the icicle with the tree reflection in the water drop is absolute genius, I love the composition, and the light and everything about it. And the amazing thing is that a short time later the icicle may not have been there at all. As with all nature photography, timing is everything.

Hi! My main lens is a 200mm F-2.8 Canon L with an inexpensive 2x Convertor. So it’s the equivalent of a 400mm F-5.6. I have used a 300mm with a 2X convertor, but the glass isn’t as sharp as the L lens. Thanks for asking and have fun!

Correction – I see that if I’d just read a few comments above I would have seen that you use a Canon & 200mm lens with a teleconvertor. I shoot with a Nikon, but I may need to look more into a teleconvertor myself, as my 200mm isn’t quite doing to for me anymore!
