Sleepy Owl

I enjoyed photographing this sleepy Snowy Owl. It was stretching its claws while standing on a concrete drainage structure in a field where it hunted. This Snowy could probably win the cutest bird of prey contest if there were such a thing, lol :)

Golden Eagle Call

I  captured this moment last year of a Golden Eagle in West Michigan as it was calling out. I liked the somewhat unique view as its tongue extended during the call. The golden tinged feathers of the bird of prey’s neck accounts for its name.

My Eye on You

This winter there has been a larger number of migrating Snowy Owls moving south compared to most years. I haven’t had the time to search very much lately, but looking through my files I found this photo I took from a previous migration in Michigan. The sun was low in the sky giving the owl a golden tinged appearance. I liked the way it had its eye on me, watching as I took the photo.

Cool Style or Bad Hair Day?

I found this duck swimming today in a West Michigan pond sporting a cool hair style. Or maybe it just had a bad hair day? LOL.

Disappearing Ice

I found this pair of Mallard ducks munching on the edge of an ice flow in Holland, Michigan today. I’m not sure why they were doing this, but if you have any ideas, feel free to post them :)

Flowering Tango

Shortly after a brief rain shower late this afternoon, I decided to go for a walk in a wetland area of Zeeland, Michigan. I spotted this pair of damselflies mating while they created a heart shape. They were flying among some flowers in an area near a pond before they landed together. They were too busy to concern themselves with me as I moved in close for a macro shot with my 50mm lens, lol.

Dandelion Masquerade

This little Yellow Warbler decided to become one with the dandelions today in Ottawa County, Michigan. I found the little bird masquerading as one of the yellow flowers as the sun came out this morning bringing yet another beautiful and warm Spring day to the area.

Dragon Swallowing the Sun

I noticed an interesting opening in a dark cloud bank as the sun was setting tonight over Holland, Michigan. I waited for the orange glow from the sun to break through and looked for an opportunity to capture an interesting image. To me the abstract shape seemed to coalesce into the form of a dragon. Or… maybe I’ve watched one too many episodes of the Game of Thrones.  :)

Peak a boo, Eye see you

This little Screech Owl displayed its ability to hide in plain sight pretty well today as I photographed it peaking from inside a hollow tree trunk while it blended in with the bark patterns. This was one of many birds available to see for visitors to the Outdoor Discovery Center during the annual Winterfest which was held today.

Sorry, No Nectar Today, LOL

This little butterfly came looking for nectar on a different day than the previous butterfly photo shoot. It found what it thought to be a colorful tiny flower of some sort, but it turned out to be the red dot on my Canon EF camera lens. It eventually found some real flowers, but I snapped this shot with my backup camera to preserve the moment before it flew away.
