Ruby Crowned Kinglet

I found this Ruby Crowned Kinglet today as it was guarding its territory, driving off any other birds that approached within a few yards. It didn’t seem to be bothered by my presence as I photographed the colorful bird from a bridge overlooking a stream in Holland, Michigan.
Water-Rocks-Sand

Using a longer exposure, I attempted to illustrate the waters movement near this rock that was partially submerged. The water also produced some interesting distortions of the rocky and sandy bottom of the stream located near Lake Michigan. I liked the abstract effect that resulted in the image which I took recently in Allegan County, Michigan.
Fish Dinner

Perhaps not the most elegant or beautiful bird, but never the less interesting. I found this turkey vulture enjoying a fish dinner along the shore of Lake Kalamazoo in Allegan County, Michigan a few days ago. I notice turkey vultures often soaring high in the sky on windy Michigan days throughout the year.
Bird on a Red Fence

I had just a few seconds to compose this image of a bird as it momentarily rested on a snow fence today at Oval Beach in Saugatuck, Michigan. I liked the flow of the lines and the striking color of the fence, with the waters of Lake Michigan as the backdrop. The bird added the final element to the composition. Capturing fleeting moments such as these are challenging and creatively rewarding to me.
Descending Sun

Today’s sunset was particularly beautiful with a dramatic contrast of dark clouds along with orange and yellow coloring in the sky. I caught a moment as the sun was peeking through a crescent shaped break in the clouds while it descended toward the waters of Lake Michigan in Ottawa County, Michigan.
