Tranquility

I attempted to capture the tranquility at day’s end in Holland, Michigan as the sun was setting with this image. Golden/orange light reflects of the ice of Lake Macatawa in the foreground.

Looking through my files I found this photo I took in the upper peninsula of Michigan, west of Grand Marais. In the old days, logs were sent down a log chute to the waters of Lake Superior. Now everyone can enjoy the picturesque beauty of the shoreline.

I captured this moment yesterday as the sun was departing for the day over the cold and icy waters of Lake Michigan near the state park in Holland. Mounds of ice can be seen in the foreground with the open waters of the big lake beyond.

Winter tries to hold on tightly this Spring in Michigan. I found these formations of ice on the Pere Marquette lighthouse yesterday in Muskegon, Michigan along the shores of the big lake.

As the mixture of sand and ice remain, nature creates sculptures when the ice partially melts. I found this example that to me looked much like a mushroom on the beach sands at Pere Marquette in Muskegon, Michigan yesterday.

I discovered this mixture of sand and ice along the shores of Lake Michigan yesterday.  It remains a cold Spring as much of the ice remains on the beach of Pere Marquett in Muskegon, Michigan.  The red lighthouse stands in the background amidst the frozen wonderland.

Beauty of Flight

After discovering a Mallard duck habitat today, I was fortunate to have several fly in front of me as they displayed their colorful formation in Holland, Michigan.

I found these Mallard ducks gathered in their habitat while visiting a wetland area in Holland, Michigan today.  One pair decided to take flight while I was composing the shot :)

I found this pair of Merganser ducks peacefully swimming in Holland, Michigan today and captured the moment when one was just about to become airborne. The other followed  behind. I found it interesting that it had what appeared to be a cross on its back. As it took to the air later, the cross was gone. It appeared to be made of reeds it had swam through. The water created a colorful abstract pattern in its ripples as this Mallard duck floated by me on a West Michigan waterway. (click on the image to see an enlarged version)
