A Touch of Yellow

I’m looking forward to seeing more Yellow Warblers come back to West Michigan in a few weeks. I photographed this one as it sang last May in a nearby wooded area. It looks like it will finally feel more like Spring as the temperatures approach 70 this weekend in West Michigan :)

Old Barn

I found this old barn today in Ottawa County, Michigan along a roadside. It will be interesting to see how it will appear as the ivy leaves starts to grow on its side adding green to the coloring of the scene.

Tranquility

I attempted to capture the tranquility at day’s end in Holland, Michigan as the sun was setting with this image. Golden/orange light reflects of the ice of Lake Macatawa in the foreground.

Sleepy Owl

I enjoyed photographing this sleepy Snowy Owl. It was stretching its claws while standing on a concrete drainage structure in a field where it hunted. This Snowy could probably win the cutest bird of prey contest if there were such a thing, lol :)

Dive of the Red Tail

I never tire of photographing Red Tailed Hawks. They are amazing birds of prey. Their distinctive red tail can vary in brightness and tone from cinnamon-red to darker shades. I caught the moment this one started to dive under the blue skies of Michigan.

Sing Proudly

I found this little bird singing proudly at the top of a tree today under a clear blue Spring sky in Holland, Michigan. I’m not sure what type of bird it is, maybe someone will comment as to what they think? This is the first day it’s really felt like Spring to me this year :)

Remnants of Winter

Some of Winter’s snow remained today in a wetland area of Holland, Michigan. I found this Great Blue Heron there amidst the reeds and melting snow. It was feeling like Spring as temperatures approached 50F (10C) in West Michigan with tomorrow expected to reach 60F (15.55C). (click on the image to see an enlarged more detailed view)

Looking through my files I found this photo I took in the upper peninsula of Michigan, west of Grand Marais. In the old days, logs were sent down a log chute to the waters of Lake Superior. Now everyone can enjoy the picturesque beauty of the shoreline.

Day’s End

I captured this moment yesterday as the sun was departing for the day over the cold and icy waters of Lake Michigan near the state park in Holland. Mounds of ice can be seen in the foreground with the open waters of the big lake beyond.

Winter tries to hold on tightly this Spring in Michigan. I found these formations of ice on the Pere Marquette lighthouse yesterday in Muskegon, Michigan along the shores of the big lake.
