Dragon Swallowing the Sun

I noticed an interesting opening in a dark cloud bank as the sun was setting tonight over Holland, Michigan. I waited for the orange glow from the sun to break through and looked for an opportunity to capture an interesting image. To me the abstract shape seemed to coalesce into the form of a dragon. Or… maybe I’ve watched one too many episodes of the Game of Thrones.

I found the dark contrasting thin line of cloud gave the illusion of a horizon in the sky as I photographed the scene. The pastel orange backdrop and floating dark clouds above added to the drama of the moment. This is yet another example of a Michigan sky as the sun sets, which I always enjoy capturing and sharing.
Sunset Forest

This stand of tall trees were lit up by a West Michigan sunset today. They seemed to glow an incredible scarlet for about a minute or so before fading. The photo is exactly as it looked to the unaided eye.

I enjoyed this Winter sunset sky in Holland, Michigan today. The trees I found looked quite striking in silhouette displaying the beauty of their form as they stretched out in all directions with the colorful sky as a backdrop.

I ran across this in my files and thought it would be a nice tribute to visitors here for my 300th post. It’s an amazing sky at dusk over Muskegon County, Michigan that I took about 2 years ago. One of the most picturesque areas to see a sunset can be found at the State Park in Holland, Michigan overlooking the big lake. There are usually a number of people on the pier there to enjoy the view.

There was a colorful and warm afterglow in the sky over West Michigan last Thursday shortly after sunset, which I captured with this photo. A storm had passed through the area just a few hours before.
