British Soldiers Lichen

I found these British Soldier Lichen, Cladonia Cristatella, growing today in the Allegan State Game Area in Michigan. They are found throughout the state on decaying wood and in open fields. The red tips are reproductive structures.

Alien Forest Found

Like an alien forest sprouting from the ground, I found these red sporophytes emerging from moss at the Allegan State Game area in Michigan today. I needed a macro lens to capture the tiny plants which were only about a quarter of an inch (6.35 mm) tall.
