Painted Turtle Reflecting

I found this painted turtle today sunning itself on a log at the Stu Visser Trails Natural Area in Holland, Michigan. It’s reflection made for a nice addition to the composition.

Red

I found these red berries growing in a tree yesterday at Stu Visser Trails in Holland, Michigan. There were many groups of these berries still intact. The local birds haven’t seemed to touch them. In any case, they add a splash of color to the winter here in Michigan.

Great Blue Heron with Snow

Copyright Jeffrey Foltice

I ran across a Great Blue Heron resting among piles of snow at the Stu Visser Trails Natural Area in Holland, Michigan. The Great Blue Heron is one of my favorite birds to photograph. This was the second time in less than a week that I was fortunate enough to see one. This time I caught it at rest near some open water. Perhaps it was beginning to think of traveling a bit further south, or maybe it enjoyed Michigan winters too much to leave.
