I found this fungi growth on the top of a log in Southwest Michigan. I’m not an expert on fungi, but found this to be an interesting subject to photograph. You can click on the image to see a more detailed view.

I found this fungi growing while I went for a walk last Sunday. It had emerged from a tree that had fallen long ago in a local West Michigan forest.

Mountains of Clouds

Copyright Jeffrey Foltice

I found this wetland in Holland, Michigan to be a great open area to see the mountains of clouds pass overhead. If you look closely, in the upper left of the photo, you can see a flock of birds flying past. Prints and greeting cards of this image are available by clicking on the photo below:

Abstract Sunset

I liked the abstract effect created by the high contrast of dark silhouetted trees, along with the bright vivid coloring of the sky as I photographed this West Michigan sunset recently.

Flying Blue

Copyright Jeffrey Foltice

I spotted this Great Blue Heron flying along a tree line yesterday in the Upper Macatawa Natural Area of Ottawa County, Michigan. The area hasn’t had any rain for over three weeks, along with temperature regularly reaching over 90 degrees and sometimes over 100. The result being many ponds and wetland areas are drying up making it more difficult for wetland wildlife to survive.

Dragonfly Resting on a Tree

This dragonfly flew right in front of me and landed on a nearby tree. I liked the texture of the tree bark as a background for this interesting insect. It was found near a Northern Indiana wetland area while I visited there yesterday afternoon.

Striking Colors

Copyright Jeffrey Foltice

These colorful leaves caught my eye while I was out in Holland, Michigan today. The color change may have been the result of heat stress to the plant since we have had several consecutive days of temperatures exceeding 90 degree Fahrenheit in the area. I used natural lighting to photograph these leaves. There was a mixture of shade with the sun back lighting some of the surrounding vegetation. I used a 200 mm F-2.8 lens wide open to help separate the main subject from the out of focus background. The bright red coloring acted as another separation element  from the green background in the composition and yet connected to it with the green veins of the leaves.

Abstract Texture

I found this tree bark an interesting study in texture. I liked the abstract quality as well. I used a Canon 200mm F-2.8 L lens to produce this image.

Bright Fungi

I found this bright orange fungi along the trail from my previous post in a Muskegon County, Michigan forest a few days ago. It was easy to spot with it’s vibrant coloring growing on an old log. I used a 200mm lens for this shot.
