House Finch

This cheerful sounding little House Finch flew in for a visit today. It looks like there is a lot more activity with the birds in my area. Perhaps many of them are passing through while some will be building nests nearby soon.

All Ears

This little rabbit perked its ears up for a moment while in the middle of nibbling on a few seeds that had fallen to the ground from a nearby bird feeder. I’ve noticed a larger variety of wildlife beginning to emerge as the weather is warming up 🙂

Sign of Spring

This morning I saw the first robin of the year here as the skies were sunny and beginning to melt the recent snowfall. Its been a mild winter in Southwest Michigan, although the month of March has been colder and had its share of snowfall so far. I’m looking forward to no more snow soon until next winter 🙂

Passing Through

These starlings paused to rest as they seemed to be passing through the area. I’ve noticed bird activity starting to pick up lately. Despite recent snowfall, they seem to sense Spring is on the way 🙂

Flight

A moment of flight frozen by the camera can sometimes be a challenge to capture, but always fun to see. At 1/1,250 of a second late in the day, I had to use an ISO of 3200 for the lower light conditions.

Beauty in Nature

The local rooster decided to visit again today looking for the bird feeder overflow of seeds. This time he allowed me to photograph him much closer. I was impressed with the beauty of his feathers as you can see in the images below 🙂

Winter Shore

Today I found this spot on the shores of Lake Michigan, an abstract mix of snow, ice, sand and water. This week continues to be unusually warm with more of the same until the coming weekend.

Sand Dune

I spotted this group of children as they climbed down a large sand dune along the shore of Lake Michigan today. Giving a sense of scale to an image can add impact, especially when a given subject is as large as this sand dune was.

Color For Winter

This bright and colorful Cardinal was a treat to see as it perched in some evergreen branches. This winter in Michigan has been unusually mild. There is no snow on the ground currently which is very rare in February for Michigan. Temperatures are expected to be in the 50s this week.
