First Steps

I captured the moment this little one walked from a man to a woman, most likely its parents, on the north breakwater light in Ludington, Michigan’s Stern park as the sun was setting. This lighthouse was voted one of the top 10 lighthouses to see in the U.S. by the Weather Channel. I think this family moment added its own beauty to the scene.

Stars in My Eyes

The Petite Pointe Au Sable Lighthouse (The Little Point of Sand Lighthouse) was completed in 1874 along the shores of Lake Michigan. Its light rises 108 feet over the waters to signal ships the location of the shoreline. I had photographed it recently during the day and decided to try the same subject at night with the sky full of stars this time.

Dune Landscape

I ventured out to the State Park in Ludington, Michigan today where there were diverse landscapes including sand dunes, marshes and vernal pools. This particular image was one of my favorites for the day, showing those elements under a blue sky.

Sand Dune

I spotted this group of children as they climbed down a large sand dune along the shore of Lake Michigan today. Giving a sense of scale to an image can add impact, especially when a given subject is as large as this sand dune was.

Day of the Chicken

Today I had some unexpected visitors looking to get their share from a bird feeder’s overflow. They didn’t seem to mind my photographing them at the time as long as they got their lunch. Although the rooster gave me a pretty tough look as he walked away seeming to warn me not to mess with him or those under his protection 🙂

Pink Surprise

I found this little pink colored surprise waiting for me outside my door today and had to share it here. It actually was quite large for moths I’ve seen, this one measuring about 4 inches wingtip to wingtip. Its been a while since I posted, hopefully I’ll have more time the rest of this summer. In the meantime, enjoy nature’s work of art here 🙂

Note: A good friend of mine pointed out that this is probably an Imperial Moth. Here’s a link with more info 🙂

In Touch with Nature

With the sun shining brightly today, I decided to take a journey outdoors to get in touch with nature and at the same time hopefully find a few subjects worthy of capturing with my camera. You can be the judge if I succeeded 🙂

A Touch of Winter

Today brought a touch of Winter to Southwest Michigan. With the snow freshly fallen, I found this walkway as an interesting subject to show the beginning of the snowy season here.

Green Day

It was another beautiful summer afternoon today. I explored a bit and was happy to find some areas I hadn’t seen before. There are so many forested areas, wetlands, lakes and parks in West Michigan, I’m determined to find new ones to enjoy and photograph. Today I did just that and have two landscape images to share 🙂

A Beautiful Day in Michigan

I enjoyed some wonderful views and landscape scenes this afternoon in Southwest Michigan. The first image is of an old shed I discovered overgrown with vegetation:

I also found what I think were Blue Spruce trees and other evergreens in a meadow:

PineAnd of course I couldn’t resist photographing the rolling hills I found as clouds rolled along overhead:

So this was just another beautiful summer day in Michigan I’m happy to share with you here 🙂
